The A & N Islands Khadi & Village Industries Board was set up by the UT Administration in the year 1983 and it was functioning as Advisory Board till 1989. The A & N Islands Khadi & Village Industries Board was established on 16th August 1988 and charged with the functions of planning, promotion, organization and implementation of KVI programmes in the rural areas of the territory in co-ordination with other agencies engaged in rural development. In the year 1989, Govt. Notification came into effect and the Board became statutory with duly constituted members. The statutory Board started functioning in the territory with effect from 1989-90.

With the passage of time, the Board has emerged as one of the most successful programme implementing agency in the field of employment generation, developing entrepreneurship and providing avenues for rural unemployed youths. It has been in the forefront in providing training to artisans , extension of financial assistance to institutions and persons and providing of marketing assistance to those units who are engaged in the development and operation of Khadi & Village Industries and guiding them through supply of designs, prototypes and other technical information.
Considering the outstanding performance at National level (Non-NE zone) for successful implementation of Khadi & Village Industries Programme in A&N Islands and based on the recommendations of KVIC, Mumbai, the A&N Islands Khadi & Village Industries Board has been awarded the prestigious “National Award” for its excellent performance under KVI sector during the year 2011-12. The award was received from Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the then Hon’ble President of India at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi on 3rd April 2013.
