There are ample opportunities in small businesses especially in Service Sector in these islands and such opportunities may transform Andaman & Nicobar Islands as hub of micro enterprises in the coming future.

For such transformation to happen there needs to be support both at the governmental and societal level.

For the government it is important to realize that the goal of small business owners will be to remain self-employed. Such people may not need financial assistance but they will need Skill up gradation and entrepreneurial and marketing assistance in order to sustain themselves.

Practical and cost-effective skill building programs need to be developed to address their needs because self-employed people will represent an important segment in economic revitalization.

Entrepreneurship development and Skill building are the key factor to fight against unemployment, poverty and to prepare these islands for globalization in order to achieve overall economic progress

Entrepreneurship Development and Skill up gradation Scheme is an organized effort to meet the challenge of growing un-employment and stagnated growth in the MSME sector.

The Directorate of Industries along with its extension offices located at various Islands in this UT has set up a Department Training Centers that imparts one year training on trades such as Carpentry, General Engineering, Coir Products,Cane & Bamboo Handicrafts and Tailoring & Garment Making.

The Department also conducts short term training programs at village and Panchayat levels for maximum outreach.
